Not every electrical fault is an emergency. Some genuinely are, and calling us at 3am is the right thing to do. Others are nuisance issues that will still be there in the morning at half the cost. Here is how to tell the difference.

Call now, do not wait

Burning smell or scorched socket

Real fire risk. Isolate the affected circuit at the consumer unit if you can identify it. If not, isolate the main switch. Call us. We come out same-day, usually within 90 minutes in central Leeds.

Water in a fitting or ingress from a leak upstairs

Water and electricity in the same fitting is a serious shock and fire risk. Isolate power to that room at the consumer unit. Do not touch the fitting.

Sparks or crackling from a socket, switch or fitting

Loose connection arcing. Isolate the circuit. Book us in.

Total power loss with no clear reason and neighbours are unaffected

Something has failed at your consumer unit or main incomer. Do not open the sealed unit. Isolate and call us.

Can wait until morning

One circuit tripped and will not reset

Isolate that circuit at the consumer unit. Leave it off. You will lose power to those sockets or lights, but the rest of the house is safe. Call us when the office opens.

A single socket or switch has stopped working

Usually a loose connection behind the plate. Not urgent unless it is sparking or hot.

A light fitting has failed

Change the bulb first. If a fresh bulb also fails, the fitting or the switch is likely at fault. Not an emergency.

A nuisance trip during a storm

Common. Reset once. If it holds, no action needed. If it trips again, isolate that circuit and call us.
